Vodafone, Telefonica bank on mobile ads
Mobile phone company Vodafone Group PLC and Spanish carrier Telefonica S.A. are taking stakes in a mobile advertising company in a move to battle the threat of online companies Google Inc. and Yahoo Inc.

Vodafone, the world's largest mobile phone company by revenue, and Spanish telecom Telefonica said today they are taking undisclosed minority stakes in Amobee Media Systems, a mobile advertising firm.

San Francisco-based Amobee, which has already been signed by Vodafone in Greece, the Czech Republic and Spain, was founded in May 2005 to provide a platform for advertisements on mobile Internet, games, video and messaging services.

Google has released the Android SDK at http://code.google.com/android/ and is offering $10 million in rewards to developers who can build out the best Android applications.
